A custom media center designed around the room, the client’s electric fireplace and one carefully formed curve.

architectural wall.
The homeowner brought an inspiration image and an electric fireplace. From there, the design became a custom media center with storage, stained backing and a curved center section that keeps the composition from feeling heavy or overly conventional.

The curve.
The center section was formed from layers of quarter-inch maple plywood. Each layer was kerfed, glued and strapped over a custom form until the lamination held the intended sweep.
That fabrication detail changes the character of the whole piece. The curved center section creates a smooth transition between the fireplace and surrounding cabinetry, while the painted cabinetry and stained maple backing keep the composition balanced.
